This module introduces the student to research ethics and the importance of ethical oversight in conduct of research. The module describes historical landmark events (local and international) and documents in the development of research ethics guidelines which inform the primary responsibilities of review ethics committees (RECs).  The aims of informed consent are explored particularly processes and factors that need to be taken into consideration when involving participants in research.  The overarching aim of the module is to develop ethical knowledge, values and skills in designing, conducting and disseminating ethical research, and to promote ethical compliance and integrity in the conduct of research.
