eMAMA postgraduate training programme in maternal mental health
Welcome to the eMAMA Post Graduate Training Programme for Maternal Mental Health in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This course is part of a collaborative initiative between universities and healthcare institutions in Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, and Europe, supported by the Erasmus+ programme. The aim is to strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals and educators to recognize, assess, and manage maternal mental health challenges, especially during the perinatal period.
The programme offers six modules (5 ECTS each, totaling 30 ECTS), designed to build core competencies through a combination of evidence-based theory, innovative pedagogy, and practical application. Teaching methods include interactive e-learning, case-based learning, mobile application use (eMAMA app), and engagement with real-world best practices.
Participants will:
-
Develop a strong foundation in maternal mental health knowledge and prevention strategies
-
Gain skills in digital tools and innovative teaching/learning methods
-
Learn from cross-country experiences and international best practices
-
Collaborate with peers and professionals across diverse settings
This course contributes to broader efforts to promote equity, inclusion, and quality care for mothers and families in under-resourced settings, and supports the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3.4 and 3.5 on mental health and well-being.
